Clean energy is energy that comes from sources that don't pollute the air.

International Day for Clean Energy is a day to showcase contributions to more affordable, reliable, and sustainable modern energy systems.

At Russell Group, we’re working on adopting clean energy in our road freight by trialling alterative types of fuel as a short term and mid-term solution to reducing our carbon footprint on our journey to achieving our 2040 NetZero goal. These fuels include:

HVO

HVO is a renewable biofuel that serves as a remarkable alternative to diesel. At Russel Group, we are currently testing a vehicle powered by a 20% blend of HVO, with the hope of expanding its usage across our fleet if the trial proves successful. HVO not only significantly diminishes harmful emissions but also offers increased fuel efficiency, making it a win-win for both our business and the environment.

CNG

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is another exciting avenue we are exploring to propel our commitment to clean energy forward. Our first CNG vehicle is currently undergoing rigorous testing. If this trial proves successful, we plan to integrate more CNG-powered vehicles into our fleet. With a staggering 90% reduction in CO2 emissions, CNG presents a compelling case for a greener future on the roads.

Hydrogen

We are also interested in green hydrogen, a fuel that offers a remarkable 100% reduction in CO2 emissions and holds tremendous potential in revolutionising our transportation systems. Road trials for these vehicles are expected to take place in 2025.

Through trialling alternative fuels such as HVO, CNG, and hydrogen, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. By embracing clean energy technologies, we not only mitigate harmful emissions but also improve fuel efficiency, benefiting both our business and the environment. As we continue to explore and implement these innovative solutions, we are committed to achieving our 2040 NetZero goal and playing our part in creating a greener and cleaner transportation industry.
